Anthony’s Coffee and Pastries Cafe Opens Third Branch in Gaslamp District Busay

Anthony’s Coffee and Pastries Cafe has officially opened its third branch in the picturesque Gaslamp District Busay, located in Don E. Osmena, Cebu City. This new addition marks a significant milestone for the brand, which has rapidly gained popularity in just three years.

According to Anthony Choa, the cafe’s founder and a culinary graduate, this new location is not only their third branch but also the second franchise under their name. Choa, who is the eldest son of Cebu’s renowned “Chocolate Queen,” Raquel Choa of The Chocolate Chamber, began his journey into the culinary world during the pandemic.

“The business started three years ago when I was baking during the pandemic,” Choa shared. What began as a simple hobby evolved into a passion that he and his mother enjoyed together, ultimately leading to the creation of Anthony’s Cafe.

Initially, Choa operated without a physical storefront. However, with positive feedback and growing customer interest, he took the leap and opened his first branch alongside partner Arthur Ramirez at BKY Building, 165 Pres. Quezon St., in Mabolo, Cebu City.

The cafe offers a diverse menu featuring hearty breakfast options, freshly baked pastries, and a welcoming ambiance designed to make customers feel at home while still enjoying a refined dining experience.

“We have different types of customers, but mostly families, friends, and couples enjoying our coffees paired with our freshly baked pastries,” Choa noted, reflecting on the diverse clientele that frequents the cafe.

In just three years, Choa has been astonished by the rapid growth of the business. Currently, they operate one company-owned store, two kiosk locations, two franchised stores, with two additional franchise branches in the pipeline.

“I am truly happy with all the efforts we put into this business,” Choa expressed, emphasizing the dedication and hard work that has fueled their success.

Jack Panis, the owner of Gaslamp District Busay, is the franchisee of this latest branch. He revealed that the cafe’s hearty meals were a significant factor in their decision to franchise Anthony’s.

“We decided to franchise Anthony’s because we saw and tasted their products. The chocolate itself is already tempting, and their menu offers big breakfasts, which Filipinos love,” Panis explained. “Their portions are generous—often enough for two people—and come at an affordable price.”

Panis also noted the growing trend of coffee as a staple in modern dining. “Together with Anthony, we created a nice coffee and pastries shop in the mountain,” he said, highlighting the beautiful setting of the Gaslamp District.

Gaslamp District Busay, which opened in 2021, was also born out of the pandemic. Panis and his family envisioned a food park where families and friends could enjoy good food and fresh air. As they approach their four-year anniversary next month, Gaslamp District Busay has expanded significantly while maintaining its close-to-nature ambiance, featuring a parking lot that accommodates 100 vehicles.

With the opening of Anthony’s third branch, locals in Cebu City can look forward to enjoying delicious meals and a cozy atmosphere that fosters connection and community.
