Tommy Ngo, Jojo Ong top Phoenix golf in Cebu

Tommy Ngo and Joy Anthony ‘Jojo’ Ong led the winners of last Friday’s Phoenix Pulse Technology Amateur Golf Tournament played at the tricky fairways of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, Cebu City.

The long-hitting Ngo fired one-under-par 37 points in the Stableford Scoring System to bag the overall gross honors in the one-day event.

Ong, who has built a name in high-rise property development, had a score of 12-under-par 48 points to claim the overall net title.

Ong’s Innoland Development Corporation team 1 also bagged the team title of the tournament with a total of 169 points.  Ong led the team with his 48 points, Roy Damole made 41, Neil Ong also had 41 and last to count was James Tan with 39. Doli Cabahug scored 32, which did not count for the team total.

Each team was allowed to field a maximum of five players with only the four best scores to count.

First runner-up was Giga with 166 points.  Clifford Gaite led the team with 47 points, Andrew Cañete made 42, Baltaire Balangauan 39 and Jerome Flores 38.  Jufil Sato’s 32 did not count.

Second runner-up was Castalloy-Dumajug with 163 courtesy of Tommy Ngo with 45, Blake Go 41, Charlie Gaite 40 and Jude Demiar 37.  Dumanjug Mayor Gungun Gica fired 30 points.

In the two-man team event, Wendell Yap (42) and Joseph Yun (40) bagged the title with a total of 82 points.

First runner-up was the duo of Benjie Hortelano (34) and Edgar Sasuman (47) with 81 points.  Second runner-up was the tandem of Regino ‘Rey’ Sanchez (45) and Danish Jakob Madsen (35) with 80 points.

INDIVIDUAL

Ferdie Chua bagged the best gross for class A with 35 points while Korean Eric Kong was runner-up with 33.  The net champion was Nelson Yuvallos with 41 points and runner-up was Victor Gocela with 39.

Class B gross champion was Edward Chu with 35 points followed by Gerry Catindoy as runner-up with 32.  The net champion was Carlo Magno with 45 and runner-up was Rolando Alberto with 43.

Sidney Po was the gross champion for class C with 26 points followed by Dr. Alberto Solis as runner-up with 25.  The net champion was Dr. Gene Matiga with 44 and runner-up was Kenneth Carredo with 38.

Reynaldo Sanchez was gross champion for class D with 20 points and runner-up was Leonardo Cuaresma with 19.  The net champion was Fernando Lagahit with 44 and Dr. Edwin Medalle was runner-up with 42.
