The 7th Karatedo Goju-Kai Asia Pacific and Technical Seminar 2019 will be held at Hoops Dome, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on September 27 to October 01, 2019.
Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation Inc. president, Richard Lim, said that this is the first time that the Philippines is hosting this event and Cebu was picked for the said event. According to Mr. Lim, Subic, Manila, and Cebu were the three choices for the event to take place and 80% of the board voted Cebu.
The event is composed of a 3-day championship on Kata, Kata Bunkai, Kumite, and Team Kumite, a Referee Course, Technical Seminar by Saiko Shihan Goshi Yamaguchi, and High Dan Grading.
The 3-day championship is composed of 186 events, including the 7-year-old category. Seven countries registered for this event and a total of 24 participating countries, including those in the Asia Pacific, namely Japan, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. More than 300 foreigners arrived in the country last Wednesday, September 25, to participate in the event.
According to Mr. Lim, this event is a test event for the Philippines to host since the SEA Games 2020 will be held here in the Philippines. He also said that the national athletes are not participating in this event since they have training out of the country.
Comparing to the national athletes to other national athletes, Mr. Lim is confident that the PHL team will do good since, during the last World Championship in Canada, PHL brought seven world championships, having only 13 participants.
The Technical Seminar will be given by Saiko Shihan Goshi Yamaguchi, president of International Karate-do Goju-Kai Association. Mr. Lim said that there will be many participants in this seminar because the seminar is sanctioned by the World Karate Federation.
Partnering with Karate Pilipinas in this international competition is the Philippine Sports Commission, Lapu-Lapu City, and the Department of Tourism Region 7 with the support of Milo.
