Throughout many years, Milo Marathon has produced prestigious athletes. This year it was from Cebu and Koronadal City.
Prince Joey Lee and Ruffa Sorongon grabbed the limelight this year after winning the men’s and women’s 21K titles in the Milo Marathon Regional Leg at the Cebu City Sports Center on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Lee finished the race in 1 hour, 11 minutes and 59 seconds to win the men’s title. It was his second 21K regional crown after winning the Iloilo Leg last year.
The 22-year-old Cebuano dedicates the win to himself and to God.
Sorongon, 28, a native of Koronadal City, won her sixth 21K title. She was not expecting to win since she’s still recovering from last week’s RunRio Marathon, where she finished third in the 42K category.
The 21K route started in front of the Cebu Normal University along Osmeña Blvd. going through Gorordo Ave., Salinas Drive, Pope John Paul Ave, and Sergio Osmena Jr. Blvd.
The turning point was near the gate of Fort San Pedro.
Both Lee and Sorongon are hoping to make their presence felt in the Milo Marathon National Finals in January next year.
On the other hand, the Cebu Technological University had the biggest delegation followed by the University of the Visayas (UV) and the Cebu Institute of Technology-University.
The fun run was attended by 24, 000 runners, eight percent of which were students.
In the cheerdance competition, UV won the crown in the college division, Gabriel Jurado Foundation School was hailed champion in the secondary division and the City Central School bagged the top honors in the elementary level.
