Cebu’s well-known fashion advocate Dexter Alazas will be launching a one-month curated pop-up display dubbed as #WearCebu, We are Cebu set this January 13, 2020 at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
It is a gathering of local brands, emerging artists and community-based arts and crafts all made in Cebu.
“As part of my advocacy for sustainability, I’m pushing for the Wear Cebu campaign to encourage emerging designers and new social entrepreneurs to reconsider making local crafts and fashion using local product resources,” Alazas said.
The owner of Alazas Atelier, Alazas added that the event is also a movement setting an example for Cebuanos to include something local in their closet or wardrobe.
“So if one has a tuxedo or an imported branded bag or dress, he or she must at least keep one Cebu Wear in her collection, both as a keepsake or an alternative when the need to wear local arises,” said Alazas. “Local is the new luxury as they say, so it’s putting a premium or value on our artisanal creations, especially those done by people in the communities.”
However, Alazas emphasized that the event is more than the retail factor of the sustainability effort in supporting local. He wants to make it his advocacy to help uplift local artisans, develop community awareness and support product development through social enterprise.
“(Year) 2020 marks the beginning of this vision. With our creative collaboration with different people from different walks of style, we hope to refocus Cebu’s fashion scene back to our local roots,” Alazas said.
Alazas will also showcase his hablon creation painted by the Cebu Artists Inc, banig bags and local accessories.
“Galleria Cebu welcomed our proposal by giving the space for ARTESANO the Made in Cebu pop-up store. If we get all the support, then we can make this a regular gig twice a year perhaps,” said Alazas.
Meanwhile, the Robinsons Galleria Cebu Senior Regional Operations Manager Floramie Adolfo said that this is the first time they will be supporting a one-month curated pop-up display.
“This is an exciting collaboration and we want to support the Cebu talents and creation,“ said Adolfo.
