AKP DISTRIBUTED BACKPACKS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO CORDOVANHON KIDS

The 100 kids from the Municipality of Cordova were all smiling as they receive a backpack, school materials, and a Christmas gift during the  Skeptron Alumni of Cebu East Branch with International Skeptron of Alumni – Canada gift-giving program on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the Cogon Elementary School.

The said gift-giving program was part of the Alpha Kappa Rho International Skeptron Alumni of Cebu-East one-day Medical Optical Mission and Free Legal Aid consultation in cooperation with Cordova Grand Council led by Lexfer “Lablers” Baguio.

After two years of staying at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent typhoon Odette which badly hit the town, the gift-giving program has somehow uplifted the spirit of the kids and gave them hope of having a  new normal life soon.

“We distributed backpacks to 100  Cordovanhon kids at the Cogon ES. I believe this is timely since face-the-face classes might resume soon,” said SAC east Organizer Wash Yap.

They also donated bond papers and inks to the Cogon Elementary School to be used in printing modules.

Meanwhile, the one-day Medical Optical Mission, Free Legal Aid at the  Gabi Evacuation Center  Cordova Cebu turned out to be a success.

According to  SAC Overall Chairman Omar Sasing that they were able to meet the number of recipients of their optical and medical mission.

“We have been organizing this kind of event for the past seven years. We are doing our best to be able to provide the needed assistance not only in Cordova but in the different communities in Cebu that is under our jurisdiction,” said Sasing.

Baguio on the other hand thank the Alpha Kappa Rho International Skeptron Alumni of Cebu-East for making the Cordovanhons as their beneficiaries as well as the Local Government Unit (LGU) led by Mayor Teche Sitoy-Cho for letting them use the Gabi Evacuation Center as their venue.

This year, they added a  Free Legal Aid in partnership with the  Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)- Cebu City Chapter led by Atty. Grace Hermosa Casano.

The organizers were grateful for the kind of assistance that the  IBP-Cebu City provided to the Cordovanhons, not only did they provide free legal assistance but as well took the initiative to distribute food packs composed of  5 kilos of rice, canned goods, and assorted ready to eat goods. The said food packs were donated by the Rotary Club Cebu Fuente.=

While the  BPO Partylist President and first nominee Mike Cubos powered the venue with free internet access.

“We’d love to express our gratitude to all the groups that gave their commitment in extending different forms of assistance to the Cordovanhons,” said Baguio.

Last 2020, despite the height of the pandemic, they were able to organize one medical mission in Barangay. Caubian in Lapu-Lapu City with 300 beneficiaries, 150 from the medical assistance and 150 adults from the Optical assistance while in 2021 they were able to have a Medical & Optical Mission in Brgy. Tejero, Cebu City with the same number of beneficiaries.
