The Sacred Heart School (SHS) for Boys Batch 1998 alumni members are gearing up for an eagerly awaited revival of the St. Ignatius Run in 2023. After a hiatus necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, this iconic event is set to make a triumphant return, aiming to draw in a crowd of 3,500 runners.
Scheduled for October 8, 2023, the run will unfold at a new venue, the G Mall in the North Reclamation Area of Cebu City, promising a festive celebration as alumni members commemorate their Jubiliarian year.
The last in-person edition of the St. Ignatius Run was hosted by Batch 1994 in 2019. Since then, pandemic-induced restrictions forced the event to go virtual in 2021. However, with improved circumstances, the organizers are thrilled to announce the resumption of the run in its traditional face-to-face format.
Joe France Cañizares, the chairman of the St. Ignatius Run 2023, made this exciting announcement during a press conference together with the Batch 98 President Engr. Maynard Ortega, Dr. Mark Philip Guinocor and race director Joel Juarez held at the Atrium of G Mall.
He revealed a calendar packed with jubilant events, including the St. Ignatius Run, a Golf for a Cause, and the Grand Alumni Homecoming set for December. Earlier this year, the alumni will be conducting a medical mission in Barangay Canduman, showcasing their commitment to community welfare.
Runners can select from five different distances, catering to participants of all skill levels and ages:
- 1K distance – Php 550
- 3K distance – Php 650
- 5K distance – Php 750
- 10K distance – Php 850
- 16K distance – Php 950
For minors under the age of 18, parental or guardian consent is essential, ensuring a safe and compliant registration process. Participants are also reminded of the importance of medical and physical fitness for their safety during the run.
The event promises not only exhilarating competition but also a noble mission. Cash prizes await the top three male and female finishers in the 16-kilometer, 10-kilometer, and 5-kilometer races. There will be a special categories for SHS alumni and students.
Beyond the pursuit of athletic excellence, the St. Ignatius Run 2023 maintains a profound commitment to philanthropy. The event aims to raise essential funds to sustain the SHS-AdC scholarship program and support the SHS-AdC Alumni Association, exemplifying the alumni’s dedication to education and community development.
Registration for the St. Ignatius Run 2023 is currently open, with onsite registration available at multiple locations, including RUNNR and Cabana in Ayala Center Cebu, Holiday Gym & Spa, Ecyy Sports Hub Cebu, Kuofu – Chong Hua Mandaue, UNBOX Cebu – Central Bloc IT Park, and the SHS-AdC Alumni Office.
