Cebu Launches ‘Light the World Giving Machines’ to Inspire Christmas Giving

The holiday spirit of compassion and service shines brighter in Cebu with the launch of the Light the World Giving Machines at Robinsons Galleria Cebu on November 16, 2024.

A heartwarming initiative by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Giving Machines encourage people to embrace the true essence of Christmas by following the example of Jesus Christ—serving others with love and generosity.

A Unique Way to Give

Unlike traditional vending machines, the Giving Machines allow individuals to purchase items for those in need rather than themselves. Donations can be made for essential goods such as food packs, educational materials, and health supplies, ensuring direct benefits to individuals and families.

“These machines are a reflection of Jesus Christ’s light, symbolized by the star of Bethlehem,” said Elder Michael B. Strong, a representative of the Church. “They offer a tangible way to help others, bringing the spirit of hope and charity to life.”

Since their inception in the United States in 2017, the Giving Machines have raised over $32 million globally, helping countless lives. This year, the initiative has expanded to over 100 locations worldwide, including Cebu, marking its growing impact.

Benefiting Local Communities

The Cebu Giving Machines will support local beneficiaries, including Cebu Caritas, Feed the Children Philippines, and UNICEF Philippines. Feed the Children Philippines highlighted the program’s life-changing impact, sharing that last year’s donations raised over ₱86,252. This was further supplemented by an additional ₱500,000 donation from the Church, enabling 113 children to graduate high school.

“With continued support, we can turn dreams into reality for Filipino children,” said Ofelia Cardeno, Country Director of Feed the Children Philippines. “Every donation, big or small, contributes to building brighter futures.”

Accessible Giving

Strategically located within the bustling Robinsons Galleria Cebu, the Giving Machines offer an easy and inclusive way to give. Donations can be made via cash or cashless transactions, ensuring accessibility to a wide audience.

Organizers are also encouraging the public to share their experiences online, amplifying the message of generosity and inspiring others to participate.

Spreading Light and Love

As the Light the World Giving Machines illuminate Cebu this holiday season, they serve as a powerful reminder of the true spirit of Christmas—selflessness, compassion, and love.

With every donation, participants join a global movement dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others, spreading light and hope to those in need.
