The Department of Education in Central Visayas (DepEd-7) has finally set a new schedule for the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet.
The week-long multi-sporting event will now be happening from March 15 to 21, 2020, still in Dumaguete City.
This regional selection for Central Visayas representatives to the Palarong Pambansa was supposed to happen from February 22 to 29 but was rescheduled due to the threat of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) that gripped the country.
The new schedule was officially announced by DepEd-7 via a memorandum dated February 13, 2020.
About 14,000 delegates coming from 19 school division delegations are expected to flock to Dumaguete City.
Aside from perennial champion Cebu City NiƱos, other delegations are from Bais City, Bayawan Ci ty, Bogo City, Bohol, Carcar City, Cebu Province, City of Naga, Danao City, Dumaguete City, Guihulngan City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Tagbilaran City, Talisay City, Tanjay City and Toledo City.
Negros Oriental has the most number of delegates at 1,057, while the smallest delegation will be coming from Bogo City with 361.
The defending champion, Cebu City, will be fielding 950 delegates.
The student athletes will be competing in archery, athletics, arnis, badminton, billiards, baseball, basketball, basketball 3-on-3, boxing, chess, football, futsal, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling, wushu, pencak silat, gymnastics, aero gymnastics and dancesports.
The top athletes of this CVIRAA Meet will represent Central Visayas to the Palarong Pambansa which will be held in Marikina City from May 3 to 9.
