Lady Warriors pull off twinkill to secure semis spot in Cesafi beach volleyball

The University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors won their final two matches in the elimination round and booked the last ticket in the knockout semifinals of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) beach volleyball tournament at the Lapu-Lapu City sand courts set on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020.

The Lady Warriors, which is composed of Jinianne Berdos, Louise Querubin, and Jaslyn Geconcillo, beat the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Lady, in straight sets, 21-9, 21-15.

USC continued to play at a high level and pulled off another straight-set victory this time against the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR) Lady Jaguars, 21-14, 21-18.

The double victory on Saturday was good enough to put the Lady Warriors in the Final Four.

Despite the loss, the Lady Jaguars will still advance in the semifinals after ranking third with a 3-3 (win-loss) record. USC and USJ-R will join the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and Southwestern University (SWU-Phinma) in the semis.

In the secondary division, the 2018 second placer USPF girls’ team of Mates Gloria and Heddy Alipio beat the University of Cebu (UC) tandem of Zheny Dela Cerna and Madel Batister, 21-15, 21-15, to secure the top spot in the team standing with a clean 5-0 slate. Behind USPF are USJ_R (4-1), SWU-Phinma (3-2) and University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu Mandaue Campus (3-2).

The semifinals will be played on Sunday morning followed by the championship in the afternoon.
