The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Brings the Light the World Giving Machines in Cebu
After five years, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints brought the Light of the World Giving Machine to Cebu and launched it on November 25, 2022, at the Ayala Center Cebu.
The Cebuanos can get a chance to donate by the giving machines from the time of the launch until January 1, 2023
This donation-driven vending machine offers a unique and memorable way to share light by serving and caring for others, especially this holiday season.
During the press conference, Elder Yoon Hwan Choi, First Counselor for the Regional Presidency of the Church of the Philippines Latter-Day Saints, said that it was the right time to bring the Light of the World fundraising machine to Cebu this year. He is joined by Jairus Aquino, Andrea Angeles, Xia Vigor, President and CEO of Cebu Caritas, Rev. Alex Cola, Bon Kyung Koo Choi, Kim Morrison, President of the Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, Ofela Cardeno, Executive Director of Feed the Children, and Lilu Alino, Governor of the 3860 Rotary district.
Elder Choi added that the Giving Machine expanded to 28 locations this year, including the United States, Mexico, Australia, Canada, Guatemala, and the Philippines. However, the only one in the Philippines has two locations for donation-driven vending machines. Another location is in Manila and recently opened at Festival Mall Alabang in Muntinlupa City.
The Light of the World 2022 Initiative is a call to the people of Cebu to not only think, but also act by engaging in this cause.
Machine donations include food, cleaning kits, educational materials and resources, water purification, emergency kits and repairs, vitamins, glasses, medical kits, gardening tools, and mental health support.
This holiday season, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints invites people everywhere to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and follow His teachings to share our light with others through the light of the World-Giving Machine.
As the Philippines expanded into Cebu this year, so did the number of nonprofits organization participating.
Six local nonprofits will join forces with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to care for and serve those in need. This year’s participants are: (Manila) Caritas Manila, Hero Foundation, Inc., UNICEF Philippines, (Cebu) Caritas Cebu, Feed the Children, Inc., and Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, Inc.
The Light the World vending machine launched in Manila in 2018 and has continued annually during the pandemic, with donations going directly to the charity The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The church bears all operational costs and ensures that 100% of every donation goes to a charity of the donor’s choice.
