The Earth is in danger. Icebergs are melting. Rainforests are burning. Animals are dying. Who to blame? It doesn’t matter because we live in this planet, so it’s our responsibility to protect it.
Global warming is getting worse. One strong proof of this is what happened in Indonesia. One of Indonesia’s rainforests is burning. It’s causing haze. The haze spreads on the neighboring countries. Because of too much haze, their atmosphere has become bloody red. It’s so sad that people keep on sharing on social media about how they care about Indonesia or Amazon, but they couldn’t start with themselves.
On this matter, a 16-year-old Swedish climate activist, Greta Thunberg, influenced many people, especially the youth, to act on reviving Mother Nature.
Climate Strike is part of the advocacy of the Swedish environmental activist. The strike is part of the activity in this eco month, and it falls under the #FridaysForFuture. The #FridaysForFuture movement is a silent rally held every Friday of September, wherein organizations are taking part on this rally and calls for help to our government on saving our planet.
In Cebu, the first Climate Strike was held last September 20. The strike included a program, self-meditation, silent protest, and petition signing. The rally started from Fuente Osmeña and ended in the Capitol. During the rally, the youth were given a chance to talk and share their thoughts about climate change. They evaluated recent happenings and share on how we can help and stop it. The group successfully submitted the Call ForAction/Manifesto at the Cebu Provincial Capitol.
The youth really has a big role in reviving our planet. Just like what the elders say, “We are the nation’s hope.” But what is hope when people keep on destroying that hope. The light that shines in the dark, that is supposed the brightest light, is getting dimmer and dimmer. But it’s not too late. Everything isn’t too late. We still have time to revive ourselves and save Mother Earth.
